Lesbian Geek site issues

Just to let people know we are aware of the site issues we're having at Lesbian Geek at present. The people at WebCity here in Australia are looking into it as it seems to be an issue at their end of things. We're not sure how long it will take till the site is back to normal, given we've just read a whole heap of people really slating the WebCity service. I guess we'll see how long it takes them to fix the issue won't we.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

A Video Gaming Discourse

As you may or may not be aware, one of our favorite gaming blogs to visit here at Lesbian Gamers is BrainyGamer. Michael runs the site and brings thought provoking ideas and observations to the gaming table every week (as we try to do in a different way). With this in mind we decided to collaborate on a piece about issues of hostility within our hobby.

The full article is linked below. Whilst it addresses some of the issues inherent in the volatile nature of gaming and the games community, the article leaves the door open for meaningful discourse and we hope you'll take the time to leave your comments. Please be aware that for illustrative purpose we have included a couple of less than savory comments we've had here at Lesbian Gamers.

Cherrie flavored Lesbian Gamers

Check this out, it's the front cover of Cherrie Magazine--a national lesbian magazine in Australia and the March issue features LesbianGamers (that's us by the way!). We hit the cover Lara Croft style and inside our very own Tracy writes about video games and why they're being played by lesbians all over the globe.

You can check out Cherrie Magazine online for free, or get it at various news agencies around Australia. You'll see the lesbian gamers article on page 17 and 18 of this months issue--titled 'Game On' and featuring Church and Black from Jericho. Yay us!

Lesbian Geek - For non video gaming geekdom

We love video games, but some of our lesbian sisters love other geekiness. By 'other' we mean anime, science-fiction, tabletop rpg, comic books, graphic novels, manga, gadgets and other grrl geekiness. Though we do like to try and cover some of these things here, we are specifically about video gaming and things directly related to that, so our sister site lesbiangeek was spawned.

Lesbian Geek will be covering different news to us here at Lesbian Gamers, though it will remain true to the Lesbian Gamers style and ethos. So if you're a lesbian and you love geekiness other than our beloved video games, why not check out Lesbian Geek .com.

Alternate Realities - The Queer Question

Here we are with another short LG article. This time we're taking a brief look at alternate realities and how they offer us the chance to enter other worlds, personalities, universes, yet remain entrenched in the here and now.

Why do games that open up new worlds, new races, new lifestyles and social structures stick to the here and now with regards to certain social norms? Why, when we are faced with entering a futuristic realm are there no gay people? If historically it is becoming more accepting to be gay and a game is set in 2100, why are the futuristic rules regarding gender and sexuality largely ignored? This short article looks at these questions and more. you can read the full article 'Alternate Realities - The Queer Question' HERE.

The Nina Kristensen Interview With the LG

We've been lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with 'Chief Development Ninja' Nina Kristensen of Ninja Theory. The interview is Heavenly Sword heavy, due to this being a game with two female characters, both of which are awesome.

There's also a strange thing about Heavenly Sword in that some gamers questioned whether Nariko (the lead protagonist) and her able sidekick Gabrielle.. err.. we mean Kai are lesbians. They're not of course, more adopted sisters, but it interested us that some forums actually brought this into question, given there is nothing in the story other than their deep love for one another that suggests such a thing, certainly nothing sexual is alluded to. Perhaps it was just boys and wishful thinking. Whatever the case there is some sort of Xena / Gabrielle feeling in the subtext, perhaps it's straight female love subtext of a lesbian subtext. Anyway we'll be looking at that another time, for now enjoy the interview with the lovely Nina Kristensen.

Lesbian Gamers Xmas List 2007

Alright ladies, it's almost that time of year, when a fat bearded man in a red and white suit will enter your home completely unnanounced at lord knows what hour, eat your food, raid your liquor cabinet, mess with your home decor and place boxes of lord knows what all over your floor! All whilst his pets pee and crap on your roof!

Yes, it's Christmas season, holiday season, whatever you like to call it. It's the season that people who don't even believe in Christ celebrate his name, decorate trees in their living spaces and gamers hope and pray someone on high was listening to them when they slipped "I don't need any more clothes this year just games" into the conversation. We're going to take a look at what lesbian gamers should have on their Christmas lists this year, so come with us, take a peek, add your own gift ideas as we bring you The Lesbian Gamer Xmas List 2007.

Guitar Hero: Lesbian Anthems - Dream Release

Ok so needless to say this isn't a 'real' release, its a dream release. Guitar Hero is one of those classic games that seems to be on a slippery slope to hell. With each release the songs become more mundane, less recognizable and less worth your gaming pennies. So, we thought we'd have a little fun with the series and collate our own Guitar Hero: Lesbian Edition for this site.

Feel free to add and discuss just what titles you would want to be included (in the comments section), should the day ever come when Guitar Hero: Lesbian Edition was on the cards. If we can come up with a longer list that would be fantastic and look at it this way, perhaps you'll discover some guitar chicks you hadn't heard of previously.
