Velvet Assassin - Female & kicking ass

Replay Studios and publisher Gamecock has announced the official name change for ’Velvet Assassin’, their upcoming stealth-action title formerly known as ‘Sabotage’. The title is of interest to female gamers because it features a female protagonist in the form of real life hero Violette Szabo, a World War II Allied secret agent.

Velvet Assassin uses the clandestine art of sabotage Violette Szabo championed during the war period. The real story of Szabo is an amazing one--she coordinated sabotage attacks against the Germans and was a true war hero. Captured at a road block she was interrogated (including rape, torture techniques and brutal assaults). She was eventually executed in Feb 1945 at the age of 23.

More info and screens after the jump.

The Last Starfighter 2?

Stop your grinin and drop your linen, we've got some huge sci-fi geek and gaming related news (yes this will be a crossover post between LesbianGeek and LesbianGamers .com). Any geek worth their salt has seen or knows of The Last Starfighter, a film released in 1984 that follows the story of a young guy named Alex recruited to fight a galactic war via a videogame. If you are a geek and missed this one, go get it, rent it, buy it, whatever, it's a great film.

For newcomers to the story, you might be getting a brand new version. Rumor has it original director Nick Castle and writer Jonathan Betuel are both involved, as well as Lance Guest who played the protagonist Alex Rogan. Now, should we start bombarding them with mail suggesting the hero this time be female (perhaps Alex's daughter?)? Hell, how about a lesbian? Wouldn't that be cool. Sure we know chance would be a fine thing, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Now who else had a crush on Catherine Mary Stewart in that movie? No.. just me then.

Doomsday - Lara Croft meets a plague

This is a crossover post between Lesbian Geek and Lesbian Gamers .com. You’ll see why shortly, but first here’s the upshot. Doomsday is an upcoming film by Neil Marshall, he’s a British writer / director perhaps best known for werewolf gore fest Dog Soldiers and girly caving flick The Descent. Grrls may well think Doomsday is cool because it stars Rhona Mitra as a specialist soldier named Eden Sinclair.

The clip below the theatrical trailer and shows the hero Eden Sinclair kicking ass as well as giving the background to the story (in short Scotland is plague ridden and closed off to the rest of the UK, but returned to 25 years later to look for a cure).

The gaming link comes in that Rhona Mitra was the original Lara Croft model. Be sure and check out the full trailer and tell us you don’t think Rhona would make a pretty cool Lara Croft, sure maybe not as cool as Angelina, but pretty darn close. On a Lesbian Geek side link in, Rhona is also the lead in the upcoming werewolf film Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

Ms. Pac-Man feminist icon

I saw this little film clip and thought it was amusing, so here it is, despite having little to do with lesbians. Ms. Pac-Man, feminist, female game protagonist and all 'round' (haw haw) cool gal.

There's really not much more to say here other than watch it and see what you think.

Fable 2 co-op play and more

Peter Molyneux has dropped a few more tidbits about Lionhead's upcoming title Fable 2. First and most importantly, Fable 2 will feature co-op play where you and pals can jump in and out of the singleplayer game and whatever happens in there goes home with you to your own game (say if you accrue money or whatever). Molyneux was speaking at the GDC when he made the announcements, which also included news that a gambling mini game will be released via XBLA a few weeks before Fable 2 releases.

This is sounding more and more interesting all the time, especially as you can now choose a male or female playable character. Here’s hoping it lives up to the incredible hype that is only going to build as the release draws nearer (presently scheduled for November 15).

Gears of War 2 teaser trailer

Gears of War was a splendid title on the Xbox 360, albeit with an ending that sort of left us sitting there going “is that the end of the game”. Anyway the boys in Delta Squad will be heading back our way this September. Sadly we’re not expecting any cool female soldiers to have joined Delta Squad given it’s uber-macho ridiculousness, but we have contacted the developer just to clarify.

In the meantime though, why not whet your appetites on this new trailer for the sequel, it’s red, black and squelchy. Gears of War fans new to our site might also want to look at the misogyny and homophobic stupidity in a thread about GoW2 HERE.

Gay Girls Who Game - Epi Seven

Gay Girls Who Game are back with Episode Seven of the vlog (thanks to AfterEllen.com and LesbianGamers.com). This episode GGWG talk Xena on the N64, how they met, who sucks more at gaming, gaming news. A few reviews including Burnout Paradise, REZ HD, NBA 08 and a DS special thrown into the mix.

That DS game mentioned called Photo Hunter can be played online HERE, it's pretty cool so give it a try, obviously unlike the DS version where you circle the differences, on this version you just click roughly where the differences are. Without further ado you can catch Episode Seven of Gay Girls Who Game HERE.

DJ Hero by Activision - Carmen rowwrrr

Be prepared to get in touch with your Carmen de la Pica Morales side because Activision has filed a trademark for ‘DJ Hero’. Yes folks you know what this means don’t you, a cool DJ Decks game controller must surely be in the offing, given Activision are of course the publishers for Guitar Hero.

It won’t be the first turntable based video game peripheral released, as Konami released Beatmania back in 1997 (Arcade), but given this will have the full backing of the ‘Hero’ trademark, we can only assume big things for it. Yes ladies if this gets released you can be the hot dyke DJ in your own living room.
